The GreenFire Village
For the Waste Pickers and their children: A Village and hope for the Future.
How Do You Build A Landfill Village
“The (ISWA) recommendations of this report are clear: the international village has an urgent task ahead in closing waste dumps globally, for the sake of populations affected by them because they live in or near them, but also because all the world’s people are breathing in the toxins released by burning on open dumps. And the greenhouse gas emissions involved are huge too, and unless we act, the growth of open dumping is inevitable. “ISWA” (International Solid Waste Association)
GreenFire and its experts are intending to take part in this global clean up and will, with other interested parties, collaborate on drawing attention to the damage caused to human health through poor waste management practices. There is no time to lose on this issue.
In this sense, it is important to identify what the existing possibilities for transforming waste are. Furthermore, we must also consider how cities will respond to the dreams of full citizenship and inclusion of those who live off their waste (or what is leftover from their voracious consumerism).
The GreenFire system is a patented system of processing waste at extremely high heat. The processes deliver 3 products; gas and fuel, marketable raw materials and non-marketable raw materials.
Its the non-marketable raw materials that become valuable to the “Children of the Landfill”. It is from these materials that we build a village.
The by-products and raw materials available from the GreenFire process are not wasted. These materials are re-purposed to supply the creation of intentional villages. The non combustible materials, mostly carbon, are re-purposed into carbon fiber filament to be used in a local 3D print manufacturing facility in every landfill village.
GreenFire Villages are intentional villages whose goal is to be completely autonomous and more socially, economically and environmentally safe.
Our villages are designed for a population range from 50 to 150 individuals, although some are smaller, and larger villages of up to 2,000 individuals may exist as networks of villages. The basic village design can be replicated and connected together.
Certain villages will grow by the addition of individuals, families, or other small groups who are not necessarily Pickers, by settling on the periphery of the village and effectively participating in the village community.
GreenFire village is provided clean water, free electricity, transportation, and waste-treatment systems, as well as the larger social systems that mirror and support them.
The focus and force of the Landfill Village are the Waste Pickers.
The Waste Pickers are the available workforce and the first citizens of the Village.
The Global Alliance of Waste Pickers is a network of thousands of waste picker organizations with groups in more than 28 countries covering mainly Latin America, Asia and Africa. This organization is supported by WIEGO. WIEGO is a global network focused on securing livelihoods for the working poor, especially women, in the informal economy.
Waste Pickers, by giving new value to the discarded waste of society entrenched in consumerism, are at the “heart of recycling” since they are a resource that permits us to reinvent possibilities.
GreenFire will work directly with these organizations.
The Landfill Village Concept
Five Characteristics of a Landfill Picker Village:
- They are not government-sponsored projects, but grassroots initiatives.
- Their residents value and practice community living.
- Their residents are not overly dependent on government, corporate or other centralized sources for water, food, shelter, power and other basic necessities. Rather, they attempt to provide these resources themselves.
- Their residents have a strong sense of shared values, often characterized in spiritual terms.
- They will serve as research and demonstration sites, offering educational experiences for others
How Do You Build A Landfill Village
GreenFire is the only reclamation company in the world providing autonomous villages manufactured from landfill waste, built and inhabited by the Pickers.
GreenFires Village technology uses only our GreenFire safe raw materials, the non-marketable but pure and clean.
The raw materials are weather resistant, non-corrosive, 100% non-toxic, fire resistant, insect and mold resistant and produce no emissions and last a very long time. We use these material to build prefabricated multicomponent low cost housing units.
These rugged structures are made of carbon fiber reinforced polymer modular components which are durable, flexible and waterproof. With endless design possibilities, these structures can be assembled quickly and easily, with Micromal cost to create a safe and clean living environment in harmony with nature.
GreenFire 3D Printing manufacturing and fabrication operation. This will provide manufacturing support to the GreenFire facilities as a first priority. Thereafter, GreenFire will provide the training, to qualified individuals, in the processes of making the printing material using the GreenFire by-products, and the designs to “Print” manufacture low cost housing for the local village.
These designs will include decentralized power generation using GreenFire Syn gas. This electricity will feed a GreenFire Village microgrid for power distribution of the excess electricity generated from the GreenFire operations.
Not only will GreenFire engage the local engineers and professionals but all labor necessary to support the operation of the GreenFire System and prepare the feedstock will be the waste pickers taught to manufacture and build their own villages and homes with a 3D print Micro factory.
We are designing a standardized model to be replicated for any landfill in the world. The best place to generate and utilize or consume “products” is locally.
GreenFire acts as a technology foundation for creating sustainable landfill communities.
GreenFire represents solutions that will allow these landfill villages to become self-sufficient. We do not believe in a “one size fits all” concept. Our technologies work best for the village served, when based completely on the localized needs and resources of that specific village.
The GreenFire Village Action Plan – Enhance Existing Lifestyle
The GreenFire Village is owned and operated by the landfill Waste Pickers. Each village has a Micro 3D print factory. In support of this, GreenFire will initiate relationship with local professionals and Universities to contribute to the vocational and managerial training of the Village members. with manufacturing, which by default includes basic literacy education.
As the Village builds cleanliness builds. Electricity and clean water help create a safe and supportive environment. When the villagers experience the support, the village will gain in self-esteem.
As the village grows, a central meeting, cooking and medical care facility will be established. Medical care and a daily nutritious meal will offer great hope for the future.
The next section presents an example of an all to common situation. The total number of open landfills is unknown. The total number of people living on the open dumpsites is inaccurate as well but a conservative estimate is 20 million and there is most likely a lot more. As the global population continues to grow, the waste continues to grow and the poor continue to grow.
